If you never had a copy of Tin Woodman, you didn't "forget" Mrs. Yoop, because that was the only book she showed up in; if you didn't read Tin Woodman, you never met her.
Ruggedo? You'll meet up with him eventually in this, if it ever gets published, but he was so very much the "default villain" of the series that I quite deliberately chose NOT to make him the central villain of this one. Truth be told, I always rather LIKED Ruggedo and felt what he needed was to finish growing up more than anything.
I felt the same way about Poly. Polychrome's BEHAVIOR always indicated to me that her father must be the kind of guy who LOOKS all stern and grim, but who's a terrible softy underneath, especially for his favorite, tomboyish, never-quite-behaving daughter. So that's what I made him.
I thought of using a couple other devices from the Oz books, but I settled on the Pink Bear, partly because I decided I would only use material from the Baum originals.
I'm glad you enjoy it. Now if I can figure out what publisher is likely to take it (I suspect the chances are that Baen will NOT take it.)
