From some descriptions I've seen on the bar.... the real fic slushpile is *worse* than what's posted on, say, fanfiction.net...

Besides, without fanfiction *writers* you don't get fanfiction writer *feuds*, a genre of flamewar which has few potential competitors for a venue to see truly awe-inspiring mutual viewing with alarm and other, more audience-amusing forms of vituperation.
