Having read My Sister's Keeper, I would most definitely not consider it appropriate summer reading for a kid, even a teenager. The end had me in tears, and that's hard for fiction to do anymore. Then, in the author's afterward, she talked about what happened in her own life that led her to write the book, and that was even worse.
