Video for a song titled "Bad Apple" using character designs from a video game series called "Memories of Phantasm"...all in beautiful black and white silhouettes.

The tune is also very catchy, and the translated lyrics are... creepy.

"Memories of Phantasm", despite the pretty girl designs, is actually nothing but a "Bullet Hell" game series. Which has one of the most frighteningly devoted followings of anything I've ever seen. The game does have some backstory and real character designs... from which one fan, or group of fans, created their own anime openings and even a couple of full-length anime episodes!

I can't even draw crude sketches of my own characters. I can't imagine what it takes to do stuff like that, even with modern programs to help.

Yeah, I wish I could draw some of my characters.

As for the anime bits, some of that reminds me a bit of Night Wizards. If you haven't seen it, track it down. Great fun.

Touhou Project. Memories of Phantasm is one of the fan-made episodes, not one of the games in the (don't call it a) series.

If I had to guess, I'd say that it's done with 3D renders and morphs with the textures turned black or white.

I'm going to tell you something that many professional artists have told me: if you can pick up a pencil and write your name then you can draw. The rest is practice-practice-practice.
