You know the rules, this one's been around more than once. I choose 20 movies, post a quote from each, you try to identify them. You do NOT get to use GOOGLE or IMDB or other online help. You have to figure out what the movies are on your lonesome.

1. "Let's face it; this isn't the worst thing you've caught me doing." -- From Iron Man, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] anton_p_nym

2. "Did you leave anything for us?" "Just bodies." -- From Commando, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] laptop_mechanic

3. "I can kill you anytime, Captain. Anytime."

4. "Ohhhh, that's not riiiight."-- From Galaxy Quest, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] k_kinnison

5. "It doesn't matter if racing ever changes. What matters is if we let racing change us." -- From Speed Racer, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] slrose

6. "I have been DENIED... critical, need-to-know information!" -- From Tremors 2, ALMOST identified by a couple people, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] hallerlake

7. "I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be SURE." -- From Aliens, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] janetmiles

8. "You have freed me, traveller; now go free yourself." -- From The Forbidden Kingdom, ID'd first in a team effort. [livejournal.com profile] paulbearman recognized the actor (Jet Li) and the character (The Monkey King) and thus knew which movie, but [livejournal.com profile] slrose was the one to actually recall the title.

9. "What an incredible smell you've discovered!" -- From Star Wars (and no, NOT "A New Hope"), ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] janetmiles

10. "No, Mr. Bond; I expect you to die." -- From Goldfinger, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] rdmasters

11. "This hotel thinks of everything; they have even provided an assassin with room service."

12. "If you were waiting for the opportune moment... that was it." -- From Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] k_kinnison and by [livejournal.com profile] nuranar; they apparently posted simultaneously but Kinnison is, of course, before Nuranar in the alphabet.

13. "NOT without incident." -- From the impossibly, ludicrously brilliant Equilibrium, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] randallsquared

14. "I ain't got time to bleed." -- From Predator, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] anton_p_nym

15. "T-Bolt, your parking lot is ready, sir." -- From the 2003 Ang Lee Hulk, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] ross_teneyck

16. "No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again!" -- From The Incredibles, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] anton_p_nym

17. "A man's got to know his limitations." -- From Magnum Force, in a sort of tie ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] hallerlake and by [livejournal.com profile] gridlore; Hallerlake had correctly recognized the CHARACTER but designated the wrong movie, and then started firing randomly (ha ha!) in the general area until he hit, while Gridlore went straight to the correct movie.

18. "All that has transpired here has done so according to my design." -- the signature line of the Emperor from Return of the Jedi, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] ross_teneyck

19. "I noticed you stopped stuttering." "I've been giving myself shock treatments." "Up the voltage." -- From Real Genius, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] midnightlurker

20. "I'm not going to waste my time arguing with a man who's lining up to be a hot lunch." -- From Jaws, ID'd first by [livejournal.com profile] gridlore

Some of these are obvious, some I hope not so much.

Guessing, here.

2 -- Galaxy Quest.

7 -- Aliens

9 -- Star Wars. And none of this "A New Hope" crap.

I have to say that 7 is one of my all time greatest quotes ever.

Indeed, it has even become something of a mantra when dealing with remote-site managers who do not know how to log support calls or change requests.

10 - Goldfinger?

5 - Speed Racer

6 - Tremors -- you showed me that scene.

#1: Iron Man -- Downey was brilliant as Stark.

#14: Predator -- Jesse "The Governor" Ventura in his screen debut.

#16: Incredibles -- though I'm not certain on this one.

#17: Dark Knight -- Sir Micheal as Alfred is brilliant casting.

-- Steve also got 7, 9, and 10... but others had beat him to those.

#6 is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't quite get it. I can hear the line, even, I just can't place it.

#15 is the Ang Lee Hulk, I think.

#18... Return of the Jedi?

18: Emperor Palpatine, RotJ.

19: Real Genius, can't remember the exact characters.

2. Commando
6. One of the Tremors movies, but I dont know which. Burt said it after going through most of the arsenal of his WarDuce of Doom.

#6 is Tremors 2, and amusingly turned on its head in Tremors 4.

#17 is Dirty Harry

Well sheesh, the timestamps are identical. I demand shared credit! I can't help it that K comes before N! :p

I swear that's Eastwood. Hmm. I know it's not the Dead Pool, it must be one of the earlier ones. How about Magnum Force?

17 - Magnum Force
20 - Jaws

Re: #17... ah, now that I know the origin you're probably right. The line I was thinking of was delivered by Alfred while Bruce was stitching himself up after the dog attack in the first reel, refering to Batman's vigilante status. It'd have been the perfect moment to drop in a Dirty Harry homage.

-- Steve loved that flick, even with its flaws.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, I googled the three quotes still left unanswered. It may amuse you to know that for two of them, the only hit is this very post.

Yeah, I suppose narrowing it down to "not the last movie in a five movie series" isn't really all that close.

But what are shotguns for, really :)

11: that sounds awfully like Inspector Clouseau to me.

But since I can't recall it at all, I'm going to say it's Steve Martin in the recent remake.

After some pondering, I'll take another shot. I think #11 might be The Fifth Element.

-- Steve has a nagging feeling that he'll be kicking himself when the curtain goes up on #8, but the bells that one's ringing just aren't loud enough to get through his skull.

#8 is, I think, Jet Li as the Monkey King in the Jackie Chan/ Jet Li movie version that came out in the last year or two. The name of the movie escapes me though. Might have that wrong. :) Gack - I feel rather frustrated not using Google to verify that. How odd that is...

I shall have to google it as soon as this posts... :)
