.... Neverwinter Nights 2 runs fine now on my couple-weeks-newer version of the MacBook. Thanks to all of you who were able to pinpoint the problem and led me to notice that the "coming out days later" version would be able to handle the load.

I found an online guide to Persona 4 which showed me how to get past the bad ending; presumably it'll take me to the "true" ending after I get the regular ending.

It's a bit of a pain that getting to EITHER of the good endings requires that you choose, in sequence, FIVE specific responses in one conversation; if you don't know that, you've got about 1 chance in a thousand to get it right.

On the other hand, my suspicion about the true villain behind all of this (at least the true human villain; I suspect there's one more behind it all) turned out to be dead-on all along. So I feel vindicated!

yeah, I hate that sort of thing in games. they seem to want to make you buy the official strategy guide.

Considering noise about author progress that was triggered by GRR Martin getting cranky about being hassled about A Dance With Dragons, is Threshold progressing? finished?

This is sheer noseyness on my part as I'm not sure that I want to eat Ramen so I can budget another book in at this time anyways.

The last I heard, Threshold was waiting for Eric Flint to do his bit.

That is what I figured, but it was an opportune time to ask.

In the case of Persona, not really. The original game is like that (a series of questions spread through the game). Your answers determine who you can recruit and in turn which path through the game you take.

At the time there *was* no published strategy guide. Players figured it out by trial and error. The Persona games -- and the whole Megami Tensei franchise for that matter -- are not casual games. They are among the epitome of hardcore console RPGs, although P3 and P4 do a bit for the mass market by providing "easy" modes.

BTW, I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but I'm partial to Vhaste's guides. Very well-written.
