Grand Central Arena -- Publication Update

On the Good News/Bad News side. The bad news is that GCA won't be coming out in hardcover; this isn't as bad news as it might sound, however; apparently the HC market (at least for anyone not a very big author already) is getting HAMMERED currently (Eric says it's even affecting sales of his 1632 books).

Good news: Baen intends to be doing some pushing of the title!

Even more good news: Do a search for Grand Central Arena and you'll find it at Amazon.com -- with an image of the extremely cool cover!

Coolness! $7.99 is a lot more affordable price, therefore, more people will be able to afford it (rather than, what's the usual HC price now? $27 and up?)

I would not mind at all seeing your take on that scene -- especially since that cover is somewhat impressionistic, not the actual scene (though it is beautiful and gets the spirit across)

Well, to be honest it was sort of predictable that would be the one a cover artist would go for and, no insults meant for the publisher, it is a scene that you'd expect on a Baen book. When you said the picture was up, I'll admit I was expecting to see it; the only other one that sprang to mind would be the firefight in the forest.

...hmmm...

Actually we discussed several covers for it, all of which seemed to appeal. The firefight in the forest wouldn't be my second choice; I'd say "DuQuesne's Victory", either his first or second stage of victory (first one when he trashes Maizas' troopers in five seconds, the second where he destroys Blessing of Fire) would be more obvious Baen covers. The second even has an Exploding Spaceship.

Or a Pure Exploitation Cover with Ariane and Gabrielle in the foreground (in Dirty-Pair like outfits, with guns) and DuQuesne behind them (shirtless, with a couple of BFGs, one in each hand), and some details of the Arena or interesting characters therefrome in the background.
