I've noticed one odd behavior with iTunes when syncing my iPhone. Sometimes (I don't THINK all the time, but sometimes) it will claim to be "syncing" and apparently will copy/upload to the phone a tune that's been in my library for months, even years. I haven't changed the file, I didn't delete it or re-add it or even move it from one spot to another, so what is it DOING?

Is your library larger than the phone? I think if you have it set to try to auto-fill, it may shuffle things on and off based on some sort of algorithm.

Did you have any smart playlists? The most likely culprit is a playlist that the file matches and that playlist is being synced.

I get this on my iPod, too. I have no clue. Let me know if you figure it out.

Hm. Let's try an experiment.

Two playlists that might be the culprit:
* Recently Played: anything that isn't a podcast played in the past 2 weeks.
* Top 25 Most Played: the 25 anything that isn't a podcast with the highest play counts.

Playing a track in iTunes will push it into the first of those two lists. Playing it a lot can push it into the second as well.
