I'll have to check out the local second-hand store, though yeah, if they don't have it, I can't be bothered trying to order it in from overseas.

For what I read, I'm less bothered by the viewpoint, even stated viewpoint, of the author, and more by how much of that viewpoint gets into the books. Some is going to get in regardless, but in many cases I can just look at it and shrug.

It helps of course that in a lot of cases, even if the author is launching direct attacks as my 'camp' in the book, most of the time what they are attacking is a straw-man that I can barely recognise, so it's not like it feels personal.

I'll admit, there are some exceptions ... I've never gotten more then about 5 pages into John Ringo's "The Last Centurion", though that's about the only one of his books I couldn't read. Frankly he's got a very entertaining writing style, and that makes up for a heck of a lot.

Besides, if all you look at in the world is your own side's view, that leads to just the kind of ... blinkered thinking I tend to complain about. In my experience, people from even very different viewpoints can have a lot more in common, even in viewpoints, then they expect ... though they won't always believe it.
