Am I wasting my time posting GCA on my LJ?

EDIT: Thanks all for the responses, I'm not wasting my time, so I will continue!

I've seen virtually no replies (except from people already on my Beta list!) on my snippets, so I don't know if anyone is reading those posts. Some people on my friends list I know would not care to, or need to, read the snippets, so I suppose it's possible that anyone who IS interested in reading my stuff (at least prior to it actually being available in paper form) has already joined my Beta list and thus posting it here on my LJ is wasted effort.

I'm so sorry. My reaction was "But I just want the book" I'd already put it on my list to get as soon as it came out and I'm looking forward to that immensely. I hadn't realized it would seem like a snub.

I also prefer whole books, personally. Also, November is a month when many, many people are swamped with NaNo and spending less time following other people's stuff than they would otherwise.

I'm in that boat, too -- I already read one early excerpt and got anxious for the whole thing, so I'm going to wait. But it's easy enough to skip those posts.

Maybe you need to get more publicity. PW's Genreville, http://smallbeerpress.com/category/not-a-journal/, and SFSignal.com might be interested.

I'm interested in your snippets, but this week has been hell for me. Before I even opened LJ and saw your post this morning, I'd been thinking, "Must go back and read. Must go back and read."

I enjoyed other snippets I'd read of yours and am looking forward to reading (most likely tomorrow or this weekend) so I hope you continue to post.

Personally, I've enjoyed the snippets you've posted so far.

On the other hand, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post these snippets in the first place, if you want to make some public splash or buzz about the book. Sending it to Eric might be a better option for that.

That's great.

I was a regular of the Bar, but it was slowly devolving into uselessness (for me, at least) so I hardly ever visit it anymore.

Sorry about that. I'm currently slammed with things and it slipped my mind to make comments.

Well -- it started me re-reading the beta copy. :D Does that count?

[identity profile] shanejayell.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it, tho I've only just started reading it. ^_^;

[identity profile] j-v-lynch.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
While I appreciate your efforts, I've not been reading it.

[identity profile] brent-kellmer.livejournal.com 2009-11-12 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit that I haven't been reading them thus far, but that's largely because I'm adjusting to the heightened wordcount necessary for Nanowrimo (but that's just this month). However, if there's room on your beta list, I'd love to be added.

Read it on Beta

Making chapter by chapter feedback would seem a bit redundant after the comment storm I've already inflicted on you. :)

It depends if you're looking for feedback, or just looking to get it in front of more eyes, because there will be people that will be seeing it there that wouldn't ever bother signing up on your beta reading list. And these are likely to be the same people who don't tend to give feedback.

So I think putting this up here is generally a good thing, for the same reason that letting it get snipped on the Baen Snippets site is also good.

As I recall, it was you snipping the prologue to Polychrome that got me signed up on your Beta site in the first place of course. :)

It has peeked my interest. I will be sure to post more and lurk less.

[identity profile] qhudspeth.livejournal.com 2009-11-13 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I've pretty much skipped over those posts as too long to look at right away. I have intended to go back and read them, but it has slipped down the to do list.

I appreciate the effort, though. I think it's usually good to tease people with a few demo chapters, even if they don't read them right away. But then, that thought is completely unfounded on actual experience or data. Just seems like one of those marketing schemes you hear about that so many people are saying works 100% and will save your career! I suppose in this case, it depends on how widely read is your LJ.

I enjoy it, but I'm actually waiting for the published book to hold and read. :) Besides I've commented on it already. ;)

I find it hard to read that much text, even if well spaced, as a blog. Anything more than a "page" or two and I lose focus. Now if it was downloadable as a mobipocket file (or more likely a series of mobipocket files) that would be much more readable.

By the way, I'm assuming the full book will be available as an ebook through fictionwise.com?

Ebook through Baen Webscriptions.

LJ Snippets?

[identity profile] gossg.livejournal.com 2011-11-11 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
There's also us late-finders. I went googling for "Harriman Delosius and the Anonymity War" to find whether there was an earlier story or novel, and instead discovered a live-journal "annotated" version of the novel.

Assuming that these snippets continue to the end, with a high level of authorial presence, this collection should be pointed to from the GCA website.
