Many things have happened since I was posting on LJ regularly. Checking on my posting, the most recent post I made that wasn't a snippet, book announcement, or request for money (either Kickstarter or GoFundMe) was back in 2018, 6 years ago.
As an author, I went through a lot of changes of venue. Baen books mostly let me go (I have one final book coming from them next year), Double Dragon did a few of our books but had monetary issues; I then went to Eric Flint's _Ring of Fire_ press which was a generally good experience, until Eric himself passed away; this was not only a huge personal blow, but also it effectively killed RoF Press as a general publishing venue. After some time, I then joined a publisher that Walt Boyes (one of Eric's co-workers and a friend of mine as well) had joined. This seemed to be ready to move forward well but the publisher was sold twice in a row, the second time to a much larger operation called Histria. Only now is Histria about to start bringing out my backlist. While Histria seems currently responsive and they're adhering to the existing contract I have, I'm concerned about future work with them because they have had some questionable contracts in the past. I have yet another publisher who will probably be taking my newer stuff.
I've kept my same day job, so far, and my wife Kathy recently started working as well. We're still very stretched because the loss of authorial income (in multiple ways) really shifted our finances badly, and this wasn't helped by her having several health issues and me having a genuine heart attack a couple years ago. Hospitals are, as many of you know, expensive.
In terms of newer or forthcoming woirk, besides getting Godswar published a few years ago, I finally have begun publishing the Spirit Warriors trilogy; the first book, Choosing The Players, is already available, and the next two books, Move and Countermove and Master of the Game, should be published fairly soon. My last book with Baen, and my last (now posthumous) collaboration with Eric Flint, Fenrir, will be published summer of 2025. I am also expecting the finally-at-last release of the sequel to Princess Holy Aura, titled The Apocalypse Maidens, to be in the coming year, so 2025 should be a pretty busy authorial year for me.
Kathleen is publishing her "Fall of Veils" series, two of them reissues and then new ones (some already written) to follow for a likely total of 9 in her political urban-fantasy romance-adventure series. This should ALSO be happening in 2025, so keep fingers crossed there!
I think I will go back to using DW as my main long-form post location, with just notifications elsewhere.
More to come!
