In his reading journeys, [livejournal.com profile] aardy  has come to a brilliant realization that I had completely missed.

Edmond Dantes, the Count of Monte-Cristo, is the G*DD*MN BATMAN. Just in 19th-century France. Or maybe even XANATOS G*DD*MN BATMAN, given how he uses plots within plots within plots to destroy the people who ruined his life, helped kill off his parents, and took his fiancee.

And THERE is how you could sell the book to a whole new generation! It's BRILLIANT! (All according to plan...)

You got it exactly 180 degrees bass-ackwards:

Batman is just the Count of Monte Cristo, updated.

Works for me, it has always been on my somday list.

As in someday I'll read it, but this intrigues me even more.

I've read books that are take offs of it, but I'd never considered that batman could be a take off of it.

That's a frightening thought.

I approve of the evil of linking to TV Tropes BTW. :)
