I can certainly understand banning Faulkner -- his editor needed a serious ass-kicking for a job not done. Erskine Caldwell is much more readable and the man actually can use punctuation. Editors and publishers should use him for an example of how not to write.

I read Steppenwolf, maybe it was the translation, but I found it to be horribly boring. Bell Jar wasn't even in translation and I did't care for it. No. 1 Daughter likes Plath. YMMV.

Anyone banning The Prince should seriously consider banning Luttwak's Coup d'Etat also. No point in doing half the job. :)
