I actually saw part of a dramatisation of The Five People on TV one night; I thought it a bit maudlin and packed with Chopra-isms, and didn't watch it to the end, but I didn't find it depressing.

-- Steve thought the theme was better explored in It's a Wonderful Life six decades earlier.
