Another friend in trouble...

... and for various reasons he can't use PayPal. What other methods, if any, exist where I might be able to set up the equivalent of a PayPal Donate button for him? He's in a lot of trouble, and I'm willing to pass the hat once.

If it's a real life friend, can you accept Paypal and pass the funds along?

The problem is they are the name in stuff like that.

You could set up an account in his name. I think there's a way to do it where you can have it record why they sent it so you can keep it discreet.

The only other way I know is to actually request cash or money orders.

Well, maybe http://www.westernunion.com

Google checkout has a "support button" for the same purpose - http://support.google.com/checkout/sell/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1688288
Amazon Simple Pay (same idea as paypal personal): https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/helpTab/Amazon-Simple-Pay

There is also a service called "Obopay." It can be a little convoluted, but I've sent money to friends using it.
