Eh, the armor has the side spike from the gauntlet that will obviously cover the elbow a lot of the time. As far as padding, hey, it's magical armor, she doesn't need much padding inside it. (The interior is actually sheathed in magical spider silk but that wouldn't be visible).
(I'm now amusing myself speculating about how many new readers will completely fail to notice Popluck Duckweed on the cover until after they start reading and meet him in the story.)
I hope it does work that way, because then it's the absolute PERFECT cover; it has the same effect on the reader as in the book's world: "Oh, it's just a toad. Probably running away. Nothing to worry about."
