Was one of your influences Wasp by Eric Frank Russel? I know we have a lot of first tier authors in common, and some not so much so. I'm enjoying your Under the Influence series so far. I have a copy of Wasp on the incredibly few feet of bookshelf space I still own (of analog books--digital books are not measured in feet).
No, I don't think that's one I ever read. There are a few EFR's I've read -- one of them, _Hobbyist_, was a significant influence for being a single story -- but I don't think _Wasp_ is one of them.
