Sheepishly (baaa!) ganked from [livejournal.com profile] julesjones.

Bold the ones you have and use at least once a year, italicize the ones you have and don't use, strike through the ones you have had but got rid of.

"I wonder how many pasta machines, breadmakers, juicers, blenders, deep fat fryers, egg boilers, melon ballers, sandwich makers, pastry brushes, cheese knives, electric woks, miniature salad spinners, griddle pans, jam funnels, meat thermometers, filleting knives, egg poachers, cake stands, garlic crushers, martini glasses, tea strainers, bamboo steamers, pizza stones, coffee grinders, milk frothers, piping bags, banana stands, fluted pastry wheels, tagine dishes, conical strainers, rice cookers, steam cookers, pressure cookers, slow cookers, spaetzle makers, cookie presses, gravy strainers, double boilers (bains marie), sukiyaki stoves, ice cream makers, and fondue sets languish dustily at the back of the nation's cupboards."

This leaves out other things we have and use, including a full-scale food processor and tortilla maker. The "coffee grinder" is actually an integral part of our coffee machine, and I also have a miniature blender/food chopper which is great for chopping up garlic, onions, ginger, etc.

For outdoors use I have both a standard grill and an electric smoker.

I'm also considering getting a pressure cooker, as there's some things that appear to be best made that way.

I come out of that meme fairly cleanly. I currently own martini glasses (gift from a client), tea strainer (well, coffee strainer that I used before I got my French Press), and coffee grinder (complementing the aforementioned French Press). Two of those three still receive at least occasional use.

I used to have some egg poachers (gift from relatives) but either I lost them in my last move or they went to Goodwill.

I think the only exotic kitchen tool I have not mentioned above would be poultry shears, handier for quartering cornish hens and ducks that I occasionally prepare than the general-purpose chef's knife I have.

-- Steve also has a "food processor" which may or may not count as a blender for this meme.

I will encourage the pressure cooker. I love being able to make beef stew in 20 minutes that would otherwise be hours. Pork in green chile sauce for enchiladas takes about 10 minutes instead of a full day.

I just got a microwave egg poacher that kicks ass, four eggs in two minutes! Plus I picked up a deep fat fryer this year (trust me it was a search to find an egg shaped one like my Grans) so I can make the dessert fritter thingies with powdered sugar my Gran used to make.

I pretty much use my kitchen things, I even used that olive spoon.

But then, one of my Grandmothers had what we call the Kitchen Gadget Gene, if it existed, I think she had it, or had ordered it, or tried it... along that path, lies madness. My sister and I have a touch of it, so we like to go into the Kitchen stores and related areas.

I'll second eacole72 on the greatness of a pressure cooker. I'll also recommend here to get one: http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/index.htm

I live in an upstairs bedroom in my daughter's house while her husband prepares a Father-in-Law apartment in the garage. As such, I have a small refrigerater unit salvaged from a convenience store, no freezer compartment. I also have a full set of plastic cutlery, suitable for spooning geletin or spreading peanut butter or deviled ham spread.

In the trunk of the car, however, I keep an electric skillet and a George Foreman Grilling Machine and numerous plasticware bowls with lids. Various sizes. Also a 2-pound horizontal bread machine. I bought a two-cup egg poacher to use with egg whites. It sucked and is gone. The microwave at work does most of my cooking. I have a cheese board there, and a steak knife. There's a choppy thing for rendering peppers and onions as tiny bits.

I've owned a lot of kitchen toys and gadgets, but life kept simplifying down to less and less space.

For outdoors use I have both a standard grill and an electric smoker. I have a grill that uses natural gas

I'm also considering getting a pressure cooker, as there's some things that appear to be best made that way.

I haven't used a Presto but they do get good reviews. I use a All American 10qt that's 20 some odd years old & it's a rook.
