I use Dropbox (and Dropbox aware apps) for that. The apps will either see the Dropbox as general storage, or look for files in a specific folder there. A quick search shows that OfficeHD works with Dropbox, though I don't use OfficeHD, so I don't know for certain.

I think iCloud probably accomplishes this even better. I haven't tried it myself.
