One of my faves too, though these days I often use it for background music while I'm doing something else because i know it so well (same with
2001
.)
Oddly, there was a not-half-bad novelization written for it too, that I managed to borrow from Sheppard-Pratt Library to read.
I Loved That Movie

I've always though it was a really good movie, though I hadn't realise how many 'firsts' it had.
And to be honest, I think some of the special effects measure up fairly well today, though I'll have to rewatch it to make sure.
The 'lightning fence' scene in particular.

I failed to recognize Leslie Nielsen in the Police Squad movies as being the male lead in Forbidden Planet. Much later, when I rewatched the movie, I was surprised to see him.
