This is actually the icon I like the LEAST. It's not nearly as good a Sea Wasp picture as the "Poisonous and Venomous" image is -- in fact, that's been my image of a Sea Wasp since, um... 1968 or so, and the one I used on my site ever since I originally set it up.
The thing is, the "Sea Wasp Tentacles" icon is much clearer; easier to make out what it is than the current default. "Poisonous&Venomous" just looks like blobby scratches to me.
That's better than the default (though still not as good as Tentacles); at least I can read the name and tell that it's a jellyfish. But I'm still only seeing about 10% of the tentacles.
Verne agrees. So let it be written. So let it be DONE!
Now I just need someone to do some pics of some of the other characters -- the Maelkodan, alternate Virigar concepts, Verne, James Achernar... Or Rokhaset, he'd be cool...
i was just going to say that, as my monitor at work is quite a bit darker (and older) than my one at home, and i have no problems seeing all the tentacles. you may want to check your gamma and colour balances on your monitor settings.
Not only is it clearer than the current default, but it also has a fun double image effect, where it looks like a sort of spectral figure, wearing a hooded robe.
It doesn't *seem* dim... if it's mostly white (ie blank Word document), it's bright enough to read by. It's just that there's about 10% of images on the web that need serious gamma correction.
Experiment time: if I increase my monitor brightness until I can see all the tentacles, what do the other icons look like?
Problem the First: you changed your default into some bug thingy. Checking your icon page...
Increasing brightness from 60 to 95 gets all the tentacles. And surprisingly, the other icons don't look washed out (is Virigar supposed to be medium grey?). But the white screen I'm typing this into is starting to hurt my eyes.
hey sorry this is off topic but i just wanted to tell you that the link to your website is down. you probably know that already but i was trying to figure out how to tell you that i loved your book digital knight.
Besides this lj, seawasp can be found on Usenet [rec.arts.sf.written, rec.arts.sf.composition, rec.arts.sf.fandom, rec.games.frp.dnd, rec.arts.anime.misc, etc.] and has his own conferenece on Baen's Bar [Paradigms Lost.]
He is always happy to hear how people like his work. :)

No need to apologize. Currently I actually HAVE no real website; heck, I'm slow enough updating this LJ and my PBEM, and my last two attempts at setting up a "real" website have not worked out well.
As Shana said, I never mind hearing that people loved my books. I enjoy discussing them with fans, especially knowing what really worked or really didn't for them.

Date: 2005-09-14 02:27 pm (UTC)I dislike Virigar, but that is because he is EEEEEEVIL, and not anything about the icon itself.
As you know, I don't see the animations on my computer, but I do when I use other machines. Without animation, the dalek and HKP ones are boring.
Are you considering adding other icons?
