Date: 2014-10-28 04:01 am (UTC)The women leaving their homes is pretty much *necessary*. Among other things, if they don't and something happens, they *will* be blamed for not having done so.
So it's a lose-lose situation.
This is a big part of rape culture. Victim blaming.
And I have to note that most men won't *ever* get the female viewpoint on this. I didn't until the day *I* was the one afraid I was going to get raped or worse if I encountered the wrong guys.
It's just not something "normal" males have experience with. But women, gays and trans folk become all too well aware of it. For the gay and trans folk, *maybe* they learn from it happening to others.
Or maybe they make a poor decision and wind up someplace where they suddenly realize that they are vulnerable. If they lucky, they just get a good scare and know bone-deep that they can be a victim.
If they are unlucky they become a victim.
Believe me, bullying is a *pale* shadow of this...
