Revelatory Recognition...

Every once in a while, I will encounter something that I really like (or really hate) and have a vague feeling that I recognize it. Sometime much later, I have a moment of recognition so strong that it amounts to a revelation, where I say "ah, THAT is why I thought it was familiar".

I just had one with respect to Ah! Megamisama! (Ah! My Goddess) and Belldandy, the lovely, warm-hearted goddess with awe-inspiring flowing hair. I now know why I had an instinctively positive reaction to her, and who she reminded me of.

Belldandy is a modern version of the O'Neill pictures of Polychrome, the Daughter of the Rainbow, from the Oz books by L. Frank Baum. Polychrome was my first real total crush on a fictional character. Now I'll always think of her with Bell-chan's voice, too.

I had to go back and look at the Road to Oz again. I loved those pictures. I really liked Polychrome.

And gee, that would be a great fancy-dress costume for Lucy...

I need to go watch some more Anime -been so busy, I haven't actually watched anything on the tube/video for ages. Hrmmm not gonna let up anytime soon either :)
Already got a new book to read (Just got Boundaries from the local B&N *bounce*bounce*.) Im trying to convince myself that I *can* wait and that no matter *how* much I want to, a little peek is *NOT* going to be a good thing -usually ends with me caving and reading the book into the wee hours, which considering tomorrow is my Level 'C' Improv show would be BAD!!
So very tempting =P

I'm glad to know that I was not alone in having a serious thing for Polychrome. It's probably a good thing that this was years before I discovered the concept of "fanfiction"; I doubt the result would have been pretty.

... at the age that I developed my crush on her, the worst I would have written would have been fuzzily romantic. I wasn't to the point I would have comprehended anything beyond hugs and kisses. Several years had to pass before I would have started descending to the lower depths of fanfic to start writing Polychrome/Ozma slash. But I didn't get the fanfic concept until I was in high school, and by then I was writing different types of stuff, so the world of Ozfic was spared.

I meant "not pretty" in the sense of "would have been written very, very badly." Not in the sense of Oz-pr0n.

Which, now that I think about it, almost certainly exists; but if so, then I don't want to know about it.

It does exist, though there is apparently some prison-focused show called "Oz" which generates a lot of false hits. Yes, I know you said you didn't want to know, but since you DID bring up the subject I figure you deserved to know.
