One interesting tidbit I recall from somewhere. By 1915 Smith had already written Skylark of Space. The phrase I recall was that he had it written *before* WWI.

It just took until the appareance of SF Mage for him to try to sell it.

I still kick myself for not buying a first edition hardcover of it at a Westercon years ago. especially since that edition still had all the changes his "co-author" had put in at the request of the magazine editor.

Yeah, one of the reason I kick myself is that later editions of the book *removed* much of what she'd written.

It's been a while since I read it, but I think I noticed a couple of places where references were made to scenes that weren't in the book.
