Neverwinter Questions...
Oct. 11th, 2006 07:42 pm... in no particular order...
1) Will NWN2 come out for Mac? All the stuff I've seen just says WinBlows.
2) In "Shadows of Undrentide", is there any way to get Mischa the Paladin as a companion? I really don't like Mr. Arrogant, and while Dorna's been great to travel with I'd like some variety.
3) In "Hordes of the Underdark", is there any way to make Aribeth loyal enough not to turn on you when the last battle comes, other than bludgeoning her with her True Name? That's so rude and UnGood from my PoV that it really grates when I'm playing a hero. At the same time I really don't like seeing her go straight back to Hell.
4) Speaking of Aribeth, is there any way to save her in the ORIGINAL module?
5) How can I add new pictures for the characters? That is, if I have images I'd like to use for character pictures, where would I put them and what format(s) can I use?
6) What third-party adventures are Really Good from your point of view... and exactly how do I use them? (i.e., where do the files go when I download them?)
#6 is of interest now that I've played all three of the main adventures.

5) I think there is a utility, in either the DM toolkit or on the NWN website.
6) You put the .mod file in the Modules folder, .hak files in the hak folder and so on.
The modules I played were before my hard drive crash, so I don't remember their names -- other than 'Sex and the Single Adventuress' which is silly and I don't think would be your cup of tea.

3) Yes. I don't remember the details, because she never turned on me. I think you might have to talk to her a lot.
4) No chance!
5) Haven't tried. IIRC it's easy.
6) I haven't ever found one I've liked, and I tried quite a few. Have you considered the official NWN modules you can buy/download for a few bucks? Those are supposedly very good.

3) I don't know. It's been too long since I've played it.
4) No.
5) The portrait file format is TGA. A portrait is a collection of 5 files of specific sizes and some specific naming patterns for the different displays. I think the only way to change an NPC's portrait is to edit the character in the editor.
6) Check the NWN Vault and look for the award winners. Module files go in the modules directory. Other files and resources used by various fan modules will include install instructions.
Well, according to their site...

Date: 2006-10-12 11:33 am (UTC)You can't go wrong with Adam Miller's Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher/Demon campaign. It's quintessential NWN material, even though the early mods are simplistic and I personally thought that the later mods were exceedingly shallow storywise and really little more than tech demos to show off the community's custom content.
Honor Among Thieves is very good, or if not that a title similar to that.
Sapphire Star, I think it was, was also par excellence although it was pretty meandering at times.
The Rose of Eternity had pretty good ripped music and a very Zeldaesque gameplay to it, although I didn't get very far.
Oh! And of course, Rick Burton's Midnight series is absolutely incredible, even if it is absolutely linear.
Islands of Adventure II: The Horns of Craven is a pretty colorful romp with good henchmen, though I can't say quite as much for IoA I. Also, very good dialogue in some parts.
I am sure I'm forgetting a thing or two. If you want my recommendation, start with excrucio eternum - absolutely my favorite mod yet. eligio eternum's good and play that first if you want maximal story cohesiveness, but it's hardly essential, and the voice acting and linearity give it a bit of Xenogears/saga Syndrome (it'll be the best video game you ever watched, etc.)
No, no, god, please no

Date: 2006-10-12 12:11 pm (UTC)6) I'll add my vote to the Stefan Gagne (
I can't remember which of the other modules I've played and enjoyed, but I could probably check when I get home if you'd like.

Date: 2006-10-13 04:18 pm (UTC)4) You can get her to turn herself in, and she will be alive at the end of the game. Don't know if that counts as saving her, as she's still dead in Hordes.
