The Missing DuQuesne...

I was looking for a picture of Marc C. DuQuesne, and when I discovered that all the online scans of Skylark DuQuesne's cover were poor, low-res versions, I decided "Okay, I'll just scan mine".

It seems to have gone missing. I can't find it. Which means either it's in the jumble of books, etc., that were tossed into boxes to save them after the flood, or that it was destroyed.

Can anyone out there scan me in a pic of DuQuesne?

Well, there's a General Marc DuQuesne, but he looks a bit wimpy to stand in for your Marc DuQuesne...

That's the same one -- looks a little more faded than mine, but my friend Photoshop can fix that.

As it happens, I have the July 1965 issue of If next to me (I needed it for a Lester del Rey story), and it contains part two of the serialization of Skylark DuQuesne. Although it has an illustration, Marc does not appear in the illo.

As I used to say, if he'd been behind it, the DuQuesne Plan would have worked.

Well, this one will do nicely. I was surprised not to find any other illustrations of him, though. Yes, it's old stuff, but I'd have thought SOMEONE would have done a couple more illos.

Of course, it might have necessitated that the entire planet first be subjugated and all dissenters rounded up, but that's a minor point.

Sadly, my edition doesn't have his picture on it. That does remind me that I need to reacquire my copy of book 1 in the series - I loaned them to my SF as literature teacher in college and never got that one back. Thanks for the reminder of a fun old series.
