Well, that sucks beyond belief.
Dec. 26th, 2008 11:48 pmAfter producing two wonderful adaptations, Disney has now apparently canned all plans to produce the third Narnia film (Voyage of the Dawn Treader). They've apparently also voluntarily relinquished all subsequent rights too. Apparently Prince Caspian earned only $141,000,000 when it cost an estimated $200,000,000 to make. Now, this doesn't make it an actual LOSS -- I would be extremely surprised if it doesnt earn another 100-200 million in DVD, etc., plus any overseas marketing. But it's not a megahit, that's for sure, and so Disney's dropping it. Well, bleah to them.
In addition, a judge has ruled that Fox has at least distribution rights to Watchmen. Which may make this promising adaptation end up mired in litigation unless both sides wise up.
