I have a Hotpoint gas stove/oven. Recently, it's taken to behaving oddly when the oven is used. After you turn it off, the "Preheat" and oven lights will suddenly come back on and beep a couple of times. After you try "turning it off" again a few times it eventually stops.

However, in the last few days it's become more than an oddity. Now the oven turns on and preheats -- but it doesn't heat up nearly as much as the thermostat setting says. It gets probably to around 200-250, if I had to guess (it WILL cook things, but takes forever).

Anyone have any ideas?

A short somewhere between the temp probe and the control board. Proly need to replace the whole shooting match.

It's the controller, most likely.

The less fancy the stove/oven controls, the longer it will last.

Perhaps you have a practical joker or small child. I have one of those and the thing has enough special settings that I would be only somewhat surprised to hear you can make it do the first thing. And it also has a temperature calibration adjustment, which would account for the second.

(...Nah, it's probably broken.)
