... I've had a pain in my foot, about at the base/joint of the big toe, for a while, but it's been getting much worse in the last couple days. Hopefully she can figure out what's up...
Oddly enough, I was just reading about something that causes pain in a single big toe joint. Any swelling? If so, hope the doc takes a sample of the fluid...
Your thought is my thought. The good news being, if it's what I (and you) think it is, it's fixable with medication. The bad news being, it tends to recur.
I had something like that misdiagnosed as gout by an urgent care clinic one weekend last fall. When my regular doc did the appropriate lab work the next week, it was diagnosed as not-gout; since it had gone away already, there was insufficient data to diagnose what it had been.
I had pain like that in my foot--fairly severely--for a few days a while back. Saw my doctor, who had my foot x-rayed. Not gout, fortunately. "Bone spurs and joint degradation consistent with arthritis" was the diagnosis. Also not fun, but manageable.
