Book Signing...

Tomorrow (Wed. 8th of SEPTEMBER! Not AUGUST!) I'll be doing a book signing in the evening at Flights of Fantasy (www.fof.net). Mountain Magic is the main subject; I'll see if I can bring a couple copies of DK with me, but it's actually becoming unavailable unless Jim reprints it soon...

... not likely, unless I become wealthy in one way or another. The Northeast is the radius one might see me in, and I'll be reluctant to go more than a few hours from my house unless someone else is paying or I have friends to stay with who will ALSO be able to handle the rest of my family (Worldcon showed me I just don't like being away from them for significant periods).

BAH. Fixed it. I just don't WANT time moving that fast.

Alas, it doesn't work that way. Unless Jim reprints, I believe that I will never see royalties on DK. I *think* I need to sell about 11,000 books to "earn out" the advance. 10,000 were printed.

("Why the hell would he not print enough for both of you to make money?" you ask? Well, it's simple; because to print PBs affordably priced, you print them... in lots of 10,000. So his real choice was print 10k or 20k.)

So Jim now has to decide if he wants to bet that, over the next (say) 3 years he can sell several thousand more. If he thinks he can, then (and only then) will he reprint.

... other places that sell used books. Currently Amazon is claiming there's still some available new(oddly yesterday they said it simply wasn't available; I wish they'd make up their minds!), but certainly some used ones are still out there.

I *think* you mean "John Hancock" (named after the signer of the Declaration of Independence who had a very distinctive signature). A "John Henry" would be probably to bash something repeatedly with a sledgehammer ("John Henry was a Steel-Drivin' man") after the semi-legendary hardrock tunneling man who, it is said, won a race against a steam-driven rock hammer, and then died.

But yes, he says after waxing all lecture-hall, I was serious. A number of people have done that. Just include a SASE for return mail.

LOL it must be a Canuck version then of John Hancock... or maybe its my bastardized version. i'm one of those who tends to mix half british, half canuck, throw in another half of words picked up from sci-fi/fantasy books, to make a crazy language that has too many weird words. most of my American friends don't understand half of what i say. at least you got the gist hehe.
