To each their own. Looks like a good first approximation of my idea of hell. No neighbors. No community. No shade. No greenery. No library. No book stores. No parks. No farmer's market. No beach. No forests. Abjectly fossil-fuel dependent for absolutely everything except possibly water, and if it's between LA and Vegas that's either not potable or draws from the Rio Grande, which is...a bit oversubscribed...

Neighbors? I don't mind the ones I have currently, but I've lived places where I'd rather have had an armed perimeter to keep them away. Certainly I don't interact with them much in most cases; my current one neighbor I've had actual discussions with several times, but the one on the other side... I'm not even sure who it is.

There's plenty of shade inside the house. As for the others, if I could afford to just whip out the checkbook and buy a $750k house, I could afford a lot of travel to LA, etc..

As for fossil fuels, maybe one of those community-sized nuclear reactors from Toshiba.

Excellent thinking. Power supply AND superweapon all in one.

In actuality, of course, it's not nearly that easy to create a volcano. But there might well be geothermal potential. Certainly a lot more than there is HERE in the geologically-mostly-dead Northeast.
