Because unless this anonymous person just happened to be one of the TRULY super rich, there's almost no one on Earth who wouldn't find a huge hunk of spendable cash a worthwhile gift.

Some problems can't be solved with money. On the other hand, it's useful if you can't think of something else.

Yes, but here we're not talking about my trying to buy my way out of some lunatic's revenge fantasy, we're talking about my sending money to some random person -- say, to the lunatic with the revenge fantasy. While Inigo would have sneered at Rugen's gold (and did), he'd not have sneered at a random gift of lots of gold. Revenge isn't a lucrative business, as his lifestyle indicated. Ten million dollars also helps a lot when you're trying to track down the one-armed six-fingered man who killed your wife father. Buys a lot of investigators, plane tickets, boots to replace the ones you wear out chasing shadows, etc.
