I've been using the RTF capability of LJ to post these chapters without my having to go through them by hand and insert the italics, etc., but in this chapter, for some reason, two lines ended up screwed up (one of those "invisible change of format in Word" tricks), so I went into the HTML to fix them.

HolyCRAP that's ugly. I must rip out my eyeballs.

Yeah, the last couple of (much shorter) bits of fiction I posted in my LJ required way too much editing.

I may have to go back to using TextPad as an intermediate step. Or maybe even writing a BASIC program to filter the HTML. :-(

I have yet to see auto-generated HTML that wasn't an abomination unto the Lord. When I've had to post lengthy pieces to LJ, I just save it to a plain text file, do some search-and-replaces to put in the paragraph marks, and then touch up italics, etc., by hand -- I rarely have many instances to worry about -- and then paste the whole thing in whilst checking the "Disable Auto-Formatting" box.

But if you have a heavily-formatted piece, that probably wouldn't work as well.

I just cop out and use Semagic. At least I don't have to wait the endless seconds for the Post Entry page to load.

Thing is, if you want stuff like bold or italics, you have to copy fron OpenOffice, or MS WordViewer or the like. Which means you get the *full* HTML mess dumped into Semagic. And then you get to edit it out.

Semagic's editing capabilities fall a bit short under those conditions.
