Help me, Obi-Wan LJ! You're my only hope!
Jan. 7th, 2010 11:45 amYou guys have been stellar about helping me on various things before, so I'm hoping you can do it again now.
For yet another of our proposals, I'm trying to find a diagram/really good set of pictures of the Carriage, Stream, Tow, and Recovery System (CSTRS) for sonar and related airborned mine countermeasures operations, operating from the MH-60S. I've got calls into Odim and CTC who work on the system, which you can see something about here, but multiple google attempts with multiple different search terms have given me just a few pictures which are not clear enough for me to really understand how the thing works. This makes it very difficult to figure out which parts I need to monitor to keep them properly running.
Anyone? Beuller? Beuller?

(I worked on HELRAS very briefly a few years back, modifying the sonar algorithms. Yes, the crazy software engineer has gotten around just a wee bit over the years.)

CSTRS information
Date: 2010-01-09 04:32 am (UTC)JOHNSTOWN, Pa., March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Concurrent Technologies
Corporation (CTC) has been awarded an $11 million Indefinite Delivery,
Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the Naval Surface Warfare Center,
Panama City, Florida, to provide technical and engineering services for
continued Carriage, Stream, Tow, and Recovery System (CSTRS) development,
test, and analysis. CSTRS was designed and fabricated by CTC and functions
as the primary interface between the Navy's MH-60S helicopter and five
different mine countermeasure sensor systems. CTC has served as the prime
contractor on the U.S. Navy Organic Airborne Mine Countermeasures (OAMCM)
CSTRS Program since 1999. Under the new contract, work will be performed at
CTC's offices in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Panama City, Florida, and is
expected to be completed by February 2012.

Since the completion date projected in the press release was 2/2012, I'm guessing that you're not going to be able to find anything in the way of diagrams or images of prototypes any time soon on the net.
Re: CSTRS information
Date: 2010-01-13 12:43 am (UTC)Thanks for the help. I did actually find a diagram that was usable in a briefing given to the Navy a while back. The 2012 date is the completion date of the SUPPORT contract; the CSTRS is currently in limited service and testing and will probably be fully deployed soon. One of our consultant partners actually was talking to CTC about getting diagrams, but it took too long.
