Videogame Mystery... (PS2)

So here's a weird one. Went back to trying FF XII after a hiatus, and it appears something's wonky. I can't seem to open up some of the menus. The triangle button (top of the controller) does nothing, when as I recall it opened up my character-do-stuff menus.

The button works fine on other games, so it's not the controller.

Without being able to get to those menus (and I tried all the other buttons, too, just in case I was misremembering the controls), I'm pretty much stuck-- can't change out equipment, not even sure I can switch characters around, etc., can't do my bounty hunts, and so on.

Anyone ever heard of this one before, and if so is there any way to fix it?

Take out the memory card, start a new game and see if it works. If it does, it's an issue with your savegame (I've heard of stranger bugs).

Is it possible you're in an area where you can't access such things for whatever reason? I dimly recall a few of the Final Fantasies locking you out of menus to say "GO DEAL WITH THIS AND COME BACK", but I can't pin down specifics. I could be wrong.
