True to the stereotypes of kids everywhere, my son has apparently put off a major part of an assignment he has had for weeks, despite having asked me what to do on it TWICE and getting advice on that. He never asked me to actually do any of it and said recently he'd already done some of the work, so I presumed he had followed my advice.

He's doing a project on caecelians, an interesting subgroup of amphibians.

He needs to talk to someone who's an expert in the subject area. This could be a professor, a person who's studied them in the wild or captivity, or someone who cares for them professionally, I suppose, but it can't just be his dad giving him an interview. :)

He may have to crash and burn on this one, but I figured that if my LJ friends actually had an expert among them, or contact with an expert who'd be available, It'd be silly for me not to ask.

Google tells me that your state has a Department of Environmental Conservation that includes an official State Herpetologist, as well as running a state herpetology atlas and other interesting stuff. http://www.cortland.edu/herp/aboutatl.htm You might be able to turn up someone among their staff who could give him an interview on short notice...

I have nothing to contribute, but I love the concept of an official State Herpetologist. That's a wonderful thing to know exists.

I'm not a reptile person, but [livejournal.com profile] zenlizard is; he does reptile rescue, IIRC. If you drop him a message, mention me as having referred you.
