Speaking of anime and fan stuff...
Aug. 21st, 2010 07:10 pm... anyone have a good recommendation for a Mac-usable program which will allow me to take video sequences from DVDs I have so I can use them to make an AMV?
Yes, I know, it's technically criminal. The RIAA needs to suck it up.

Date: 2010-08-23 12:32 am (UTC)Her: i use mac the ripper to turn dvds into decrypted VOBs, then mpeg streamclip to cut them into smaller clips (typically chapter length, or a scene or so, 10 minutes say)
Her: then i use my vidding software (in my case, final cut pro) to cut them down into very small clips
Me: ok. so far he's got 2 recommendations for something called Handbrake
Me: your suggestion seems to be a more complete process.
Her: handbrake is shit for vidding
Her: handbrake converts from a dvd to an mpg in one fell swoop
Her: you typically use it to convert the whole dvd to a single file you can upload somewhere, put on the torrents, etc
Me: ah. yeah, I can see how that would not be super useful.
Her: but the typical torrentable file is something like 700MB for a movie
Her: which means there's a lot of compression going on
Her: what you want is to just decrypt, then clip the stuff you need and save it off in your native vidding format (quicktime, on mac) with the minimum compression possible, to retain high quality
Me: ok. is there a good resource starting point for vidding that I can point him at?
Her: mac-vidding-101.livejournal.com
Me: cool. thanks.
Her: the tech changes so fast that there's no one website, but that community seems pretty helpful
Her: also i think amv.org has some tech guides
Her: though they might have more windows tech, i dunno
Me: that's super helpful. thanks.
Hope that helps.
