I hated this episode with a passion..

I didn't HATE it, but despite having a few really great (to me) moments, it just didn't ... oh, what's the term... *POP* for me. Partly it was that I'd seen that particular story done very, very well at least twice before, the first one by Keith Laumer (A Plague of Demons) and later on a similar riff by Dean Koontz (Twilight Eyes).

But I didn't dislike it nearly as much as my least-favorite Who stories -- Midnight, the two Angel stories, and Family of Blood. It had some moments I REALLY liked in it, which wasn't really true of the others.

When enough Silents can command enough humans, the Angels get smashed.

Big question: does a Silent's mental invisibility work when dead? I can't see any reason why it would. The ecosystem needs swift scavengers.

but yeah, if just a photo/video works subliminally id assume even dead it would have the same effect.

Probably. It's not subliminal, though. The video is very much visible. It's a matter of constantly reinforced post-hypnotic suggestion on a grand scale. The nearest literary equivalent is the "fnord" in the Illuminatus! trilogy.

I liked it. The aliens got too used to being forgotten and didn't consider tech that might be used against them. Wonder how many are left after humanity made it to the stars? Would the video work on other aliens?
