First, the new header... what's up with what appears to be an 8-bit Mount Rushmore?

Second, I've noticed lately that when one friend has two videos inline (if it deigns to display them at all) it starts mixing them up on the Friends page.

I hate the new header. I have no idea where it came from.

Firefox (at least) has had troubles with multiple videos on a friends page for a *long* time.

What happens (apparently) is that however videos are identified, it doesn't properly re-id them when you hit refresh.

So if the page has videos A, B and C "visible" (if you you can see them with just scrolling) like this:

A
B
C

And refresh adds a new video (call it Z) so they are now

Z
A
B
C

What Firefox shows is

A
B
C
C

clicking on "read more" on a post, and returning *doesn't* fix it. Clicking on Next 20 or Previous 20 and coming back *does* fix it.

This bug has been there since at least Firefox 3.x I think it wasn't there in 3.1, but I won't swear to it.

If what you're seeing with inline videos is the same thing I get, it's a known issue that's been a problem for several years now, but it only affects some users, and only in certain situations. (It only affects the first page of your friendslist, not one with an URL that ends in ?skip={some number} and not the full display page for the post with the videos.) Basically, the way LJ handles embedded video causes the browser to cache the embedded video data incorrectly so that the next X videos that get posted always use the original X videos' embed codes.

The only way to "fix" it is CTRL+F5 to do a hard refresh, but all that does is reset which videos always appear on the first page of your friendslist. Or you can click through to the full post page, where the problem also doesn't occur.

I don't recall the other exact triggers off the top of my head, only that once it starts for a particular user, it basically never stops, though it may occasionally spontaneously reset which videos are the ones that always appear.

I've had this happening for me for a couple of years now. You sort of get used to it, much like chronic minor pain or a constant bad smell.

No proper 8-bit Mount Rushmore should be without Mario.

And here I thought it was Tatooine - obviously I should take a closer look. OTOH, I'd rather not look at this nonsense at all. Pheh...
