(Speaking of which, I noticed recently that GCA is sort of like the Zones of Thought in reverse — FTL xor Thinking, rather than FTL iff Thinking. Furthermore I seem to recall one of Vinge's characters bringing up the same point as Ariane did to the Vengeance's representative — that the system could be seen as specifically benevolent.)
