There must be a technical term for it -- what is the area/place where the winner of a big car race does his big celebration? I know some do a victory lap, but the stereotypical image is the guy getting out of the car surrounded by people, given champagne and such. Is there a term for the area that happens in, or is that just some random part of the track?

Isn't that what the winner's circle is?

"Winner's Circle" is the correct term for horse racing, but a quick web search doesn't find that used for cars (lots of false hits for bars and stuff). The Texas Motor Speedway has a bit called "Legend's Track", but I don't see that term elsewhere.

For NASCAR & IndyCar, it's Victory Lane, after taking a victory lap and usually a burnout on the track in front of the grandstand.

In Formula 1, at least, I believe it's the paddock.

I would have thought Winners Circle but apparently I'm wrong. It sounds like it actually varies depending on the sport.

Ok, digging around a bit on Google it looks like Winners Circle may actually be it.

Victory Lane.

Logically it must be non-random enough that everyone knows to congregate at the correct spot. So presumably those in the know have some way to talk about it. Having said that, I'm not one of those people; the consensus seems to be Victory Lane but I did not know this before today.

Victory Lane for motorsports at big enough tracks to bring in the cars. Small tracks just have a podium like many other sports.
