New Meme!

I thought about doing the "Guess My Favorite Character" meme, but realized the problem is that in many shows I don't HAVE a single favorite character.

So instead, I'm making a different meme.

Rules are pretty simple. I list off ... let's say 10 TV shows. You guys try to guess my favorite scene or event in the show. When you succeed, I cross it off the list and discuss why I like that scene and ALSO mention one or two other scenes which were "close seconds" to that one.

EDIT Note: Yes, I understand this one is harder for y'all. *evil laugh* However, at least it's possible for me to ANSWER, which the other one wasn't (f'rinstance, which character is my favorite in B5 varies between not two, but at least four or five, characters)

Here we go!

1. Babylon 5 (Useful Hint: probably NOT one of the commonly listed scenes.)

2. Star Trek (Original Series)

3. Saint Seiya Hey, that's cheating, finding the answer on the Net. Yes, Shiryu VS Gold Saint Cancer, when Cancer's just dumped Shiryu's girlfriend (telekinetically) off a cliff and this causes Shiryu to reach deep into his back pocket and uncork an economy-sized can of whupass. I love the music for that scene, the utterly terrified look on Cancer's face as he says to himself "where's this power COMING from? It's greater than anything I've ever felt!" (when Shiryu was supposed to be just a piddly bronze).
Other seriously cool scenes that compete with it are Shiryu VS Black Dragon (well, Shiryu IS the coolest of the Bronzes) and the Return of Phoenix.

6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

7. Airwolf

8. Dragonball Z (Useful Hint: Gohan features in this scene)

Heh. Not so long ago I googled for something on Saint Seiya and one of results was precisely about your favourite scene. So if it haven's changed since then, for No.3 answer is Deathmask vs Shiryu in (under?) Cancer Temple.

Though yeah, you're prolly right. I shouldn't have mentioned almighty Google and rather play the smart, insightful person. Another proof that honesty never pays in real life. ;(

..but if I haven't known it before, I'd guess something Ikki-related. Him against Shaka, most likely.

Well, yeah, for all the shows together. Isn't that true of all the other TV memes?

For TOS, it's about 70 hours (given that the shows aren't really an hour long each). And haven't we all watched them dozens of times?

Yeah, TOS would be easier than some. But SG1? Gaah, that's a lot of telly to choose from so freely - I'm really interested to see if anyone knows you well enough to guess.

And, of course, I have watched them dozens of times. Is it too early to start showing them to my daughters?

It's never too early.

SG1 actually was the earliest show that Gabriel recognized, because Kathy was watching it every night. He called it the "wawa show" because the Stargate looked like water, of course.

Oh, and...

... no, that would not be one of my favorite scenes. Possibly one of the most interesting character scenes, but not a "yes, I like watching that scene" scene.

Ok, I'll guess B5 : The scene where Delenn and friends in Minbari cruisers face down the Earth heavy destroyer-type ships (ship class temporarily forgotten).

Well, the only one of the 10 that I've seen all of is #10.

YST -- Kaos making the Yoroi.

Babylon 5 -- Vir answering Morden's question.

Dragonball Z -- Piccolo sacrificing himself to save Gohan.

Another wonderfully cool scene, as was the final granting of Vir's answer, but no. As I said, it's probably NOT one of the commonly-remarked on scenes.

Dragonball Z -- Piccolo sacrificing himself to save Gohan.

That was the scene that first hooked us on DBZ, and it's still a hell of a visual. But not QUITE my favorite from the entire show. But... I'll add a hint above.

This is much harder than picking a character, IMPNSHO. Actually, I hate picking a favorite anything; I like lots of things, how do you rank #1? Feh.

Anyway, as Buffy is far and away the one with which I have the most familiarity (have seen every episode, and own everything except Season 1), let me come up with a guess:

"Graduation Day, Part 2", where the entire Sunnydale High Class of '99 throws off their gowns and pulls out their weapons to fight The Mayor.

If I'm wrong, I'm going for something with the Nerdly Trio as a backup. Haven't decided what yet.

It may well have been. If it was the show about the superpowered god-warriors wearing armor that represented the various constellations, then yes.

P.S.: Given how you've talked about it elsewhere on this page, I think maybe it's "Escaflowne" (that you spent about 15 minutes praising, without pausing to inhale, when we were at dinner in Boston).

How do I describe the closeness... Um, let's say we were talking about my favorite scene in The Incredibles, and you said "We look like bad guys! INCOMPETENT bad guys!" and what I was looking for was "I know, I know... FREEZE."

Escaflowne is certainly my favorite anime. and I recommend that everyone go see it.

There are actually two scenes I'd accept as "favorite" for Buffy. One is the one you're close to.

I will note that NO scene featuring the Geeks is worthy. That entire season, with a single exception, was pure suckitude.

(for me, picking a favorite Escaflowne scene would be impossible. and I need to watch that again soooo bad. is my favorite anime ever.)
