Writer's Block: The Fifth Dimension

Depends on the rules for entry, so to speak. Do I have to be purely myself with no special additions/consideration for the fact that I'm not really suited for travelling? Or do I, like the usual story-version of this, have some kind of special talent or ability, or get kicked up a notch to be able to deal with things?
Leaving aside the most direct consideration -- I wouldn't go to any realm where I have to leave my family behind -- I'd say my own world of Zarathan. There, even as "just me" I have... rather clear behind-the-scenes knowledge that I could use to great effect.
Other than that... maybe Oz. There's plenty I might like to visit if I had the right powers or backup, but without that I'd want to play things safe.

The Thirteenth Child by Pat Wrede. Here's the blurb for it: "Eff was born a thirteenth child. Her twin brother, Lan, is the seventh son of a seventh son. This means he's supposed to possess amazing talent -- and she's supposed to bring only bad things to her family and her town. Undeterred, her family moves to the frontier, where her father will be a professor of magic at a school perilously close to the magical divide that separates settlers from the beasts of the wild."
They have magic. Not just magic, but standardized magic systems. Any- and everyone can do "simple household magic" like preserving fresh food and keeping out insects and stuff to maintain your health. I could do that. And if I couldn't, there's a group that doesn't believe in doing magic. They get by doing things the hard way. I could be a harmless crackpot like that if I had to.
