A guy I ran across online basically claims the book proves the "reality" of UFOs, blah blah blah. Having read literally dozens of UFO books, color me somewhat dubious, especially since I've never seen the book mentioned by anyone else.

Someone has proven UFOs on the Internet!

Again? I can't remember ever even hearing of him, but I can't think of anything that would be new to say on the subject at this point.

Okay, a quick google turns him up. Apparently he's not deep in the crank camp. The book exists and apparently says that, yeah, most UFO sightings are meaningless fluff (clouds, planes, etc), and some can't be classified so easily, and a few remain flatly baffling. So about what any reasonable person would have said on the subject back in the 1970s.

The Amazon reviews suggest that the book proves that some _Unidentified_ Flying Objects are real. It does not prove that there are aliens behind them, nor that there is any government conspiracy to cover them up (the cover ups are, according to the review, covering up that no one knows what caused the event... not covering up a known to be extra-terrestrial event).

My curiosity is kinda peaked... makes me think I might order it for my kindle after I finish the 3rd book of the Hunger Games trilogy.

Oh, there's a lot of confirmed government cover-ups of "unidentified" flying objects... because a lot of the really baffling ones are Top Secret projects the military really doesn't want people looking too closely at. Then there's the really weird stuff Mother Nature does that we're starting to understand a little better, like sprites and blue jets, that inspired more than a few UFO reports.

Yes. None of which contradicts "not covering up a known to be extra-terrestrial event", which was the important content of that sentence.
