I've received several messages over the last few weeks from people pimping their new eBooks. They're not people I know, they're not even in my genre, and I've never requested any such things from them.

Anyone else having this happen?

No I haven't seen it but I would guess that they are targeting you because you are an author. Remember there is a hip trend for independent 1 or 2 book authors to push push push push advertise their books. Something that in terms of benefit/reward is likely very low on the return scale. Kristine Rusch had one of her weekly business articles about that topic a couple or three weeks ago. Anyway at a guess its an attempt at generating reviews believing that is the key to getting rich now. Not writing book after book and having multiple books selling to make a living. ::shrug::

It happens a lot on Twitter, as I followed a couple of indie writers and other indies seem to strip-mine their lists (or solicit those indies to re-Tweet their pleas), but so far I haven't been so solicited on LJ or on forums I frequent.

-- Steve understands they're fighting obscurity, but doesn't think that being perceived as an annoyance is a big step up from being unknown.

I get one or two of those a month, but I'm quite a visible reviewer of books online. Perhaps (I hope) they've taken the hint from my deafening silence and moved on.

I haven't been getting these recently, and I'm an author, active on Twitter, etc. No idea why you're getting them.

I haven't. I put an ebook (180k words) up on Amazon Publishing. I mailed a couple of free copies to some close friends but who has the time? :) I'm just gonna hope that maybe the right person will buy a copy and give it a recommend.

Review Romance as if they're cookbooks.

Review Action books as if they're "How-Tos"

Review Comedy books as if they're religious texts.

And all Fantasy books are really historicals.
