I just started playing the game again, now with Dawnguard and a few mods (like velociraptor feet for Argonians). So very fun, so much to find and do yet!
It'd be nice if I could GET Dawnguard. Or mods. But I can't get either.
Stuff like that shows that someone isn't THINKING when they do their design work. Instead of making it work on ONE platform and then, later, finding out you'll have problems on another, how about STARTING with work on ALL THREE PLATFORMS at once and have the rule be that if what you're trying won't work on all three, you find a fix that DOES work on all three?
That is why I do not have the recent Transformers game for PC. On release date, I went to the store to buy the DVD, and it was not available. As weeks went by, it finally came out... But download from the vendor only. With limited bandwidth, and prepaid to boot (I pay for it by the gigabyte, unused expires in one month. I usually hit pretty close to the data/time limits both), I am not going to spend an extra $20 or more to play a game that already soaked me for $60!
My personal preference is to use a mouse for these games too. It is much faster and intuitive for me, especially in menus.
Regarding swimming everywhere, try Argonians. ;)
I did recently pick up Oblivion from a sale. I will definitely have to play it, given your review.
Nice review...I agree 100% about needing to have NWN-style smashing ability.
Have you played Dragon Age: Origins? It has a lot of good personal interaction and story choices, and is almost as obsession-creating as the Elder Scrolls games.
There's something about the Bethesda RPGs that I find off-putting... I say this based on a wide-ranging sample of having played an hour or so into Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 3. Something about the interface, or... something. I can't put my finger on what it is, but it's definitely there.
I find the Bioware RPGs -- KOTOR, the Mass Effect series, the Dragon Age series, even the Old Republic MMO to some extent -- suit me much better.
