Shakespeare meme...

The meme's simple: when you see this on your Friends list, quote some Shakespeare.

My favorite soliloquy from my favorite WS play...

The problem for me is that my favorite Shakespeare play isn't Shakespeare's play. It's Tom Stoppard's play.

... for Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead.

I detest that one. And I was forced to edit an entire critical book on Stoppard for one job I had. (That one also forced me to edit/proof an entire book of Kafka and a critical edition of Moby Dick. Fortunately, it had other compensations, like getting to proof a Weird Tales collection.)

Does one follow from the other? I find reading plays (and scripts in general) to lie somewhere between boring and hateful. I *loathed* reading Hamlet in high school. Yet, I quite thoroughly enjoyed several of the movie adapatations including the Mel Gibson/Glen Close version which follows the less popular, incestuous interpretation of the story.

No. Aside from a couple movie versions, I've never SEEN any Shakespeare performances. I did perform as Prospero (three of his soliloquys) as my final exam in a theatre course, but virtually all Shakespeare I know, I read. And I detest Romeo and Juliet, too, mainly because it's much more an Idiot Plot than most of his others.

BTW, I also love Gibson's "Hamlet"; excellent work. Though I'd really like to see Schwarzenegger's version as previewed in "The Last Action Hero"...

Maybe it is the theater training, or lack thereof in my case. I see words on a page but I don't know how they're supposed to sound when performed. You see a flowing soliloquy; I see an unwieldly mess.

That's possible. I hear dialogue in my head when I read it. Plays are just lots of dialogue, basically.

Yes. I basically HAVE no website at this point. The Wizvax.net site I used to have is completely gone and my two other attempts to get one set up never really worked out either. Alas.

THIS is my website, really. It's the place I can update easily and talk directly to fans without having to worry about maintaining a bunch of HTML myself.

Having sprung my own hard earned shekels for books with your name on them I can say that I'm more than willing to accept that you're spending time writing rather than webmastering.

Plus having a family and other distractions doesn't help with the site. LJ is a sort of painless site for me.
