Yep, that seems to fit my memory pretty well, except for one name being different!

Well, in the original, Seaton figures out the connection by himself, and has to wait until DQ activates the thing again. Plus, they're working in an academic setting and have to figure out how to get the stuff OUT of the college legally, while in this they're already working for the government so they have the connections to work on it. There is, alas, no M. Reynolds Crane in this version.
