And what are heroes, really, without villains?

(well, aside from those mysterious voices we keep hearing from, who are clearly villainous in some sense)

(I know it was a rhetorical question.) I think people can be heroes without villains. An accident or natural disaster isn't villainous, but people can and do respond to them heroically.

This one is going to be challenging. You've got to, I assume, come up with a bad guy that's better at being a bad guy than Marc DuQuesne, after all, you need to create a real challenge after all.

And hyper-competent bad guys are a hallmark of the setting.

I'm so enjoying this ... in some ways I think I'd enjoy it more without the Hyperion context ... you're really getting the feeling of old school Doc Smith. :)
