... has apparently passed on.

He is the last, I think, of the greats of his era who remained. With Jack Williamson, he wrote the Reefs of Space/Starchild trilogy; with Cyril Kornbluth, he wrote multiple classic SF novels, one of which, Gladiator-at-Law, I reviewed on my site not too long ago.

He also had been writing a retrospective blog (The Way The Future Blogs) and was still active in the industry.

I never got to meet him, but I knew many of his works. SF has lost one of its longest-shining lights.

Word reached Worldcon (in the filk room at least) as of a few hours ago. (It was not mentioned at closing ceremonies for the convention.)

As I tweeted earlier today, upon hearing the news:

"Just learned Frederik Pohl passed away yesterday, aged 93. The world is a poorer place for his passing, but far richer for his writing"

I haven't read his works in a long long time.

Yes, I also think he is the last of a great group of writers. I think it's time to revisit his books.
